Brightest and Biggest Super Moon

The end of August, which will feature the biggest supermoon of 2023, promises a stunning celestial spectacle as the summer draws to a close. This lunar event not only marks the year’s closest lunar approach to Earth but also qualifies as a “Blue Moon,” a name for events that only happen every two to three years. The phrase “once in a blue moon” has gained popularity as a result of this association.

According to NASA, the peak of this month’s supermoon brilliance is expected to occur on August 30 at 9:35 p.m. EST. There are two different methods to describe blue moons. When two full moons, like the next blue moon this month, occur within the bounds of a single month, the more common interpretation becomes apparent.

The other definition refers to an extra full moon occurring during a season. When there are four full moons in a season, the third full moon is known as a blue moon or a seasonal blue moon.

t’s important to keep in mind that, according to EarthSky, the following blue moon is not anticipated until May 31, 2026, following the full moon in August 2023. Likewise, it won’t be until November 5, 2025, that a super moon will coincide with the moon’s closest approach to Earth. This means that the lunar event of this month will rule as the biggest, brightest, and closest moon to Earth for a period of two years, until 2025.

Every 29.5 days or so, the moon completes one orbit around the Earth. According to EarthSky, the second full moon will become a supermoon in August. It will be the biggest supermoon of 2023 because of how close it will be to Earth—just 357,344 kilometers.
